  19.                   DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SOUGHT FOR ALCTS
  20.  
  21.      The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS),
  22. a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is seeking candidates
  23. for the position of Deputy Executive Director to work at the middle
  24. management level in support of the activities and projects of the
  25. Association.  General responsibilities include: development, planning,
  26. marketing, and management of ALCTS' continuing education programs, such as
  27. regional institute programs, preconferences, and annual conference
  28. programs; support and guidance to members of ALCTS serving in elected and
  29. appointed capacities; support for the division's publications and awards
  30. programs; coordination of the membership promotion program; provision of
  31. advisory services to members and non-members concerning technical services
  32. and the program of the division; management of the ALCTS office; and the
  33. supervision of special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  34.      The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the
  35. ALCTS members and governing groups; be able to develop and maintain
  36. effective working relationships within a professional association setting;
  37. possess strong oral and written communication skills; and be able to work
  38. well under pressure but with the flexibility to organize work and schedules
  39. to accommodate competing priorities.
  40.      The MLS from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  41. is required; a minimum of two years experience in the area of technical
  42. services or collection services is also required. Experience in developing
  43. in-service or continuing education programs is desirable.  Salary range:
  44. $36,100-46,000.

  58.                          NEW FILES ON ALCTSERV
  59.  
  60.      Several new files have been added to ALCTSERV, the ALCTS fileserver.
  61.  
  62.      These are:
  63.   * The report of the ALCTS Publisher/Vendor-Library Relations Committee,
  64. by Richard Jasper, Chair.  This is PVLR REPORT.
  65.   * The ALCTS Survey Policy adopted in San Francisco has finally been
  66. added SURVEY POLICY.  We apologize for the delay.
  67.   * Just before the Annual Conference, the American Association of
  68. Publishers issued a statement about copyright.  Marcia Tuttle, editor of
  69. the the Newsletter on Serial Pricing Issues, published the statement.
  70. Marcia's transcription has been posted as AAP STATEMEN (only eight
  71. characters are allowed), with the full cite to NSPI as the header.
  72.   * As noted in the report of the ALCTS Organizational Structure Task
  73. Force (see AN2, v.4, no.2), there was considerable discussion about the
  74. proposed restructuring during the Annual Conference.  The Executive
  75. Committee of the Preservation of Library Materials Section prepared a
  76. statement defining their objections.  This is listed as PLMS OSTF.

  82.                   CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

  84. NISO Annual Program
  85.  
  86.      The 1992 annual meeting and program of the National Information
  87. Standards Organization (NISO) will be held October 27 in Pittsburgh,
  88. beginning at 1 p.m., in conjunction with the 1992 ASIS Conference.  It
  89. will feature reports on NISO's standards development activities.  For

  92. Museum & Library Conservation Institute
  93.  
  94.      The Museum & Library Conservation Institute will be offered the
  95. week of October 26-30, 1992, as part of the Building & Construction
  96. Seminar Series at the New York University Real Estate Institute.  There
  97. will be five one-day programs on conservation environments, establishing
  98. a monitoring program, lighting, maintaining a conservation environment,

  102. Disaster Planning Workshop

  104.      Concordia Lutheran College and the AMIGOS Preservation Service will
  105. cosponsor a full-day workshop on library disaster planning on October

  138.                          AN2 EDITOR ON HOLIDAY
  139.  
  140.      Though there was a long gap between the release of Vol. 4, no. 1
  141. and Vol. 4, no. 2, suggesting that the AN2 editor was on vacation, that
  142. was, regrettably, not the case.  The vacation begins with the
  143. publication of this issue.
  144.     Somewhat more regular publication of AN2 will begin again after
  145. September 21, 1992.  Please continue to send material for those issues,
  146. however.  All submissions will be held and prepared for inclusion as
  147. quickly as possible.  (The editor is again going to IFLA, where she
  148. hopes there will not be any political activities as interesting as last
  149. year's coup!)
